Energy Metrics, Data Collection & Reporting
The Energy Metrics, Data Collection & Reporting initiative will develop standards and operational practices to define measurements for energy consumed in critical facilities and outside plant to assist cable system operators in measuring the effectiveness of energy management.
The benefits of this initiative include:
- Measurable data focused on energy consumption for cable operators
- Tools to measure energy change within a cable network
- Measurements to assist cable operators in making informed business decisions regarding energy management
- Improved ability to communicate the positive impact of energy management

Access Network Efficiency
The Access Network Efficiency initiative will develop standards and operational practices to create a framework for obtaining the data needed to establish a baseline of total power consumed and the power costs associated with operating critical facilities and the outside plant within a cable network.
The benefits of this initiative include:
- Procedures for cable operators to accurately measure actual power consumption
- Data enabling cable operators to negotiate utility rates based on actual power consumption vs. estimates from utility companies
- Power usage and cost reduction through accurate energy data
- Methods to identify, troubleshoot and correct high power consuming anomalies in the network
- Accurate inventories of power supplies in the outside plant
- Reduction in the frequency of plant downtime
- More accurate billing and management of accounts through the identification of utility to power supply discrepancies
- Improved utility rates through better energy data management processes

Alternate Energy
The Alternate Energy initiative will develop new standards and recommended practices that establish methods to define and continuously analyze what existing and alternate energy sources are best to supply the various components of a cable service network.
The benefits of this initiative include:
- Identification of non-grid sources of power applicable to cable operators based on property and geographic location
- Framework of financial impacts concerning investments, savings, cost, return on investments and total cost of ownership
- Enhanced intelligence regarding the operational impacts of new sources of power including reliability, scalability, maintenance, time to implement, business aspects and grid dependency
- Reduced carbon footprint of cable operations through alternate energy sources
- Reduced dependency on grid energy

- Easy to implement and low maintenance energy management solutions
